Saudi Arabia/USA – Recommend Reading for President Obama

It is with great pleasure for American Bedu to share that this blog is cited by the esteemed Foreign Policy Magazine as recommended reading for President Obama!

As anyone who lives in or has been to Saudi Arabia knows so well it is a land full of contrasts and contradictions.  Individuals experiences will differ greatly based on location and circumstances which brings one to Saudi Arabia.

My question to American Bedu readers is which posts do YOU suggest as recommended reading for President Obama and why?

  1. I think that Conspiracy Theories tab would be good reading for him.

I would recommend a recent post, “Who Are The Real Muslims”, for President Obama’ read. I think our president would greatly benefit from this since he was born as a “muslim” and later converted to “christianity”.

A Pew survey poll last year reported a sharp increase in the number of Americans (about 20% or 1 in 5) who, incorrectly, say President Obama is a Muslim, while the proportion saying he is a Christian has declined. More than half way into his presidency, a plurality of the public says they do not know what religion Obama follows.

The president’s religion, like his place of birth, has been the subject of Internet-spread rumors and falsehoods since before he began his presidential campaign, and the poll indicates that those rumors have gained currency since Obama took office.

But was President Obama ever a Muslim or seen by others as a Muslim? More precisely, might Muslims consider him a murtadd or apostate? Actually Muslims are not exactly free to leave Islam and severe penalties are imposed on the apostate.

“I’ve always been a Christian,” protests Obama, focusing on his own personal lack of practice of Islam as a child to deny any connection to Islam. But his family and friends considered him as a child to be a Muslim.

But Muslims do not see practice as key. For them, that he was born to a line of Muslim males makes him born a Muslim. Further, all children born with an Arabic name based on the H-S-N trilateral root (Hussein, Hassan, and others) can be assumed to be Muslim, so they will understand Obama’s full name, Barack Hussein Obama, to proclaim him a born Muslim.

Once again, I think President Obama will greatly benefit from reading the “Who Are The Real Muslims” post and the accompanying comments. May Allah and Yahweh Bless Our President!

  4. Oh my goodness..There are so many..
I cannot think of the titles on top of mind, but ones with tags on religion, dalily life in KSA, I think you did one about Saudi’s future after King Abd. passes, the fate of KSA.
Also, marriage, love and have a lot to share.

  5. Congratulations Carol at having Foreign Policy Magazine–the big heavyweight of wisdom–recommend your blog to Pres. Obama. They’re absolutely right!

  6. @Harry,

Arab Christians tend to have Arab names. And many Muslims have Hebrew-based names. And many Spanish language people have Arabic based names no matter their faith. Your point about names makes no sense.
