Carol is in hospital

Dear readers of American Bedu, Carol has been taken to the hospital over the weekend due to low white and red blood cell counts.
She has been very ill but remains optimistic and we hope she will be able to go home very soon now.  We also hope she will be able to start her next chemo which is very important. Meanwhile Carol has no internet.
I am sure Carol would appreciate it if everybody keeps discussing and behaving well.
As per usual   😉

  26. My thoughts are with her.

  27. First off I wish you well with your fight against Cancer. I am a 15 year survivor of breast cancer . I may have an opportunity to teach in the Kingdom but I need Herceptin every three weeks is it available there? Would you let me know it will influence my decision. Again I wish you well and once the white cells come back you will feel so much better. Did they give you drugs to build the cells up?

  28. Dear Dolores,

Herceptin (and Avastin) are available in the Kingdom. I know both are administered at King Faisal Cancer Centre but it is for Saudi’s only. You may want to investigate Kingdom Hospital (assuming you would be in Riyadh) which is a private hospital. Dr. Osama Malik, a well known oncologist, has a clinic/office at Kingdom.

Where will you be working? Does your employer provide insurance? I think it is important for you to get connected with a physician prior to your departure to ensure no delays with your treatment.

In answer to your question, yes; I routinely receive lukine (sp?) shots to help boosts white counts and prokrit for the red cells as necessary.

Please do let me know if I can be of further assistance.

  29. Thank you for your response. I hope you are still doing well. I do not know th name of the school in Riyadh I answered an ad on the web site. I believe an agency was being used for the teacher search. They called me for a first interview over the phone told me that I woudl be getting a second interview . The company that called me and posted the ad was: As of yet I have not heard from them. Again I wish you all the best with your health. and thank you once again for your offer of assistance.

  30. Thanks, Dolores. Do not be shy or hesitant to follow up with the recruiting agency.

I’m doing okay although the past two weeks were a real roller coaster ride. I see my oncologist tomorrow and will find out then if my blood counts are high enough for me to resume chemo treatment. If so, I’ll be back in chemo on Wed.
