Saudi Arabia: Sharing Memories

For some reason today I was reminded of an experience my late husband had when he first arrived in the States in 2002.  At the time, he was a senior Saudi official and working at the Saudi Embassy in Washington.  He had an appointment at Capitol Hill and asked his secretary for directions.  Rather than use an official vehicle and driver he chose to take a DC cab instead.  On entering the cab he told the driver he had an appointment at Capitol Hill and gave the piece of paper with directions to him.  The driver looked at the directions and then at my husband while saying to him, “You want me to drive you to the room?”  It turned out that his secretary had written down instructions on how to find the room where my husband had his appointment but not the street address.  Fortunately the driver was able to get him to the right building and my husband made his appointment with no delays.
