Saudi Arabia: The Expat Blog Project in Saudi Arabia

Julien, the Creator of Expat Blog shared with American Bedu how Expat Blog came into conception and his desire to make it the best “one stop resource” for expatriates in Saudi Arabia.

Driven by my passion for discovering new cultures, and myself being an expatriate for several years, I launched the Expat Blog project seven years ago. I wanted to gather all the expatriates’ blogs throughout the world on a unique platform.

Expat blog is mostly aimed at sharing experiences of people living abroad. I have always thought that the real life and experience of expatriates could really help those people wishing to start a new life abroad.

When I created 7 years ago, my idea was to gather all expat blogs around the world on one unique platform. As the years went by, I have added more participative features to the website such as a forum, participative guides, albums, and a business directory. Now Expat blog has more than 420 000 members (11,000+ in KSA)

Last year I realized two essential features were missing on the website; it took me almost 6 months to develop them, and I am now happy to announce our brand new jobs and housing sections !

The idea is to get access to job offers everywhere in the world, wherever you are. In the jobs in Saudi Arabia section, you can have access to job offers, per job category and job contract. You can also create your CV and contact potential employers.

The housing in Saudi Arabia section enables you to look for or to offer an accommodation: rental, sale, flat share, flat, house…it’s up to you! You can see pictures of the apartment and get in touch with the person via Expat blog (you need to be a member of Expat blog to post an ad ).

Julien would welcome your feedback and any additional suggestions you may have to further improve Expat blog.  He can be reached at

  1. Your blog is commendable. I am an expat too but unlike you, I am an underdog expat. Expats in the KSA are distinctly divided into 2 groups.
The so-called “untouchables” (Americans, French, British, etc.) basically the Westerners and the “blue-collar job expats” (Bangladeshis, Filipinos, Indians, Pakistanis, etc.)
Why untouchables? because they are the ones who live in a nice, well-guarded compounds and they have that freedom inside that place whereas the latter group of expats live in a shanty, overcrowded and dirty camps.
The latter group I think have more advantage in stating and sharing about what is happening inside the kingdom since the reality of life in Saudi is in the street, where we are exposed to the masses, all walks of life. I must say that the untouchables can only share their views partially about what’s happening in the kingdom since they don’t really mingle with the crowd.

  2. thanks for your article 😉
