Saudi Arabia: One Must Always Be a Friend to the King

Whether we like it or not, politics do matter, and especially between the United States and Saudi Arabia.  Saudi Arabia is the key ally of the United States in the Middle East.  Saudi Arabia is a crucial partner in avoiding war with Iran, regaining stability and sensibility in Syria as well as treading the waters with Egypt…just to name a few.

No leaders name draws more respect than that of King Abdullah also known as the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.  King Abdullah rules the Kingdom and the Middle East region from the very heart of Islam.

Due to the recent changes in senior leadership with the deaths of former Crown Prince Sultan and Crown Prince Naif, coupled with King Abdullah’s recent hospitalization for surgery, there have been a rash or articles and analysis on who might be the next King of Saudi Arabia.

However, one thing I learned from living in the Kingdom is to prepare for the unexpected.  While there are likely candidates in line for the throne at a future date, one should never presume to know the outcome.  Whenever it is evident that a new King must rise, there are going to be many closed door politicking sessions among senior royals and with other concerned bodies.

Regardless of which Royal will ultimately become the next King of Saudi Arabia, a recent Forbes article makes a very valid point.  The United States government (and other governments) must know their Royals.  They should not waste time in building trusting relationships even if a Royal is not yet designated as next for the throne.

  3. Apropos Saudi Royalty, when has anybody last heard of Prince Bandar? About four months ago a rumour circulated in the Gulf States that Bandar got seriously injured while in discussion with heads of Syrias opposition.

  4. Prince Bandar has always been known for his low key profile. I’m sure that next time there is an ‘all hands’ required by the King he will be seen.

If so, then Saudi citizens should be allowed to vote in the US Elections.
