Saudi Studies prove driving affects ovaries and pelvis!

From Al Arabiya:
Saudi women seeking to challenge a de facto ban on driving should realize that this could affect their ovaries and pelvises, Sheikh Saleh bin Saad al-Luhaydan, a judicial and psychological consultant to the Gulf Psychological Association, told Saudi news website sabq.org.

against women driving

Driving “could have a reverse physiological impact. Physiological science and functional medicine studied this side [and found] that it automatically affects ovaries and rolls up the pelvis. This is why we find for women who continuously drive cars their children are born with clinical disorders of varying degrees,” Sheikh al-Luhaydan said.

This fascinating result of the various ”scientific studies” (wholly unknown in the rest of the world) is a new excellent reason to deny women the right to drive cars.

Meanwhile Saudi women are planning more action on October the 26th to fight for the right to drive their own cars.

More than 11,000 women have signed the oct26driving.com declaration which says: “Since there are no clear justifications for the state to ban adult, capable women from driving, we call for enabling women to have driving tests and for issuing licenses for those who pass.”

Sheikh al-Luhaydan urged these women to consider “the mind before the heart and emotion and look at this issue with a realistic eye. The result of this is bad and they should wait and consider the negativities,” he said.

The new head of the Haia, the religious police, Sheikh Abdulatif Al al-Sheikh has recently come out with the comment that: ”Saudi Arabia’s ban on women driving is not mandated by any text in Sharia, the Islamic legal code which forms the basis for most Saudi law”.

Edit:

This juicy bit of Saudi news has gone viral, and even news programs like The Young Turks have been covering it:

  1. I support the Saudi women in all attempts to have their rights as full human beings. I only wish their was something I could do to help.

  2. You can’t make this stuff up

  3. How do you ”roll up a pelvis”???
Can we see some röntgen photos of a ”rolled up pelvis”???

  4. I googled ”rolled up pelvis”; the only thing I got is a pilates exercise.
It is clear Western science has not caught up with Saudi science yet.

And I hope it never will…..

  5. Driving causes clinical diseases? Rolls up the pelvis? Don’t get me started…

  6. There are other serious medical grounds for not allowing women to drive cars some are physiological, some are psychological:

    – A woman driving a car will get a heart attack due to the stress of driving a car
    – Women are too emotionally unstable to deal with driving a car
    – Women’s psyche will immediately change and they will turn from modest into hussies, take off their hijab and start making out with men
    – Women will start rebelling against their owners and will want to make their own decisions

And now we have a new addition,
    – Women’s ovaries and pelvic bones will start doing acrobatics….

  7. Bahahaa…oh, wait…he wasn’t joking?? It’s a mockery of women and science to present this as “scientifically studied”.

  8. Even monkeys have evolved. They can read sign language, smoke cigars and figure puzzles. The Luhaidans of Arabia should captured and sent to the ICC for crimes against humanity.

  9. without comment…….

  10. The Saudis have gone beyond ridiculous in using all the possible arguments to defend their oppression of women. Rolled-up pelvis? Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! (Taking deep breath.) Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

  11. In other words and in continuation to what I said above: “Women, know your place! Your pelvis and ovaries are your most important assets in our eyes. You are nothing but a set of ovaries designed to create children and we’ll do our best to make you stick to the role prescribed for you by us men even if that means we’ll make fools of ourselves by offering ridiculous arguments that have no basis in science and reality.” Honestly, is there still any doubt that women in KSA have made very little progress beyond the purely biological role they have been assigned by their men? Just because you have the latest iPhone and other shiny gadgets doesn’t mean that you live in a progressive, future-oriented society.

  12. And what about women being transported in cars?
Why don’t their reproductive organs and bone-structure go into a permanent yoga position when they are transported in a car instead of sitting behind the wheel???

  13. Is there any medical evidence for this? I mean if driving is affecting ovaries and rolled up pelvises – whatever that means – then why is it in all other countries where women are driving, they are still getting pregnant and reproducing. It must be doing something good then.

Then what about laptops? Using laptops on the lap for long time is also damaging. And the negative effects of cell phone in pant pockets. Its damaging the sperms. So ban laptops and cell phones as well.

What about women who sit in front of the Tvs for hours. Are their pelvis also rolled up or does that happen only when they sit in cars?

    Mind boggles.

  14. What causes rolled up bellies?

  15. Driving combined with fatty sugary food!.

  16. @Sarah of 29 sep ,13
Sheikh Al Luhaydan has just said it, he does not mean it. You are a woman you must know what causes rolled up bellies and Pelvis.
I may say that it may be the reason of high number of disabled children in Europe and West? THINK THINK.

  17. @SARAH of 29 sept,13
AL Sheikh has just said it, he does not mean it.

  19. And what about women being transported in cars?

    good question

  20. I would like to say a few words in defense of the much maligned man. Instead of ridiculing this compassionate, concerned man, whose only crime is paramount concern for the physical well-being of women, why don’t you people consider the medical evidence?

What Dr al-Luhaydan is talking about is known as myofascial pain syndrome, a chronic pain disorder caused by pressure on sensitive points of the body, particularly in the pelvic region and most commonly by muscles that are contracted repetitively, as when changing position, sitting or standing or even lateral dislocations associated with entering and exiting a vehicle. The gravity of this condition is frequently compounded by lateral arm movements executed in conjunction with circular gestures. To make matters worse, myofascial pain syndrome can cause pain in seemingly unrelated parts of your body.

The only reason this good man used the term “rolled up pelvis” was to attempt to make the gravity of the situation clear, in vocabulary that simple-minded, uneducated people can understand and relate to, particularly those of the female gender. If Dr al-Luhaydan had used the medical term ‘myofascial’ most women would have thought it related to the face, possibly in conjunction with the application of mayonnaise as a treatment of some facial skin condition. We don’t want a bunch of blotchy women driving around with their faces covered with some oil-based creamy sauce, do we?

To make matters worse, myofascial pain syndrome can cause pain in seemingly unrelated parts of your body. This is consistent with Dr al-Luhaydan’s statement of about other “clinical disorders of varying degrees”. If the good doctor had been permitted to elaborate, and had he not been bombarded with undeserved scorn by the uninformed and uncaring (including commentary here on AmBedu) for those remarks taken out of context, Dr al-Luhaydan would certainly have provided a long list of cases from the prestigious American Family Medical Journal establishing the ravages and tragedies caused by unchecked and untreated myofascial pain, including but not limited to momentum related displacement of the internal organs, causing phantom or purloined ovaries, a condition which invariably leads to spastic colon disorder, better known as Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

What I am trying to say is that Sheikh al-Luhaydan was only trying to help women, asking them to consider the negatives before they get behind the wheel. It is a scientific fact that most women when driving down the road at 80km/h do not stop to consider the obvious fact that their ovaries are also traveling at 80hm/h in the fragile container of the human abdominal cavity. I don’t think it is too much to ask women which is the preferred scenario: to have their ovaries on a dangerously exposed seat of a speeding car or at home, safely protected by high walls and locked doors.

So, Saudi women, please consider the frivolous and ephemeral advantages of being able to get from Point A to Point B on your own in a polluting 2-ton vehicle to the very real, permanent dangers of having a horde of dappled women driving around with mislocated and unprotected ovaries flummoxed in their gastrointestinal passages and their faces covered in mayonnaise.

  21. @All Sorry. I must say that sitting in the car is different than driving? Sitting is idle driving is action. very simple to understand.

  22. If you study the figures of disabled children you will realise that Europe and West has the highest score of disabled children.

  23. Sami, you think Saudi Arabia does not have the same numbers? They just hide them in Saudi Arabia. And Saudi Arabia is littered with many deeply ingrained hereditary diseases which are rare in the rest of the world but common to Saudi Arabia, as the result of constant inbreeding.

And what about the numbers in ”the West”, lets not forget that any numbers of disabled children in ”the West” are greatly augmented by the deformed children born from Muslim women who cover themselves up and have deformed children as a consequence. These children are deformed by a disease called ”rickets”, this is a deficiency disease which would be easily averted if their mothers dressed normally and sunned themselves and made sure they have enough vitamin D in their bodies to make healthy babies.

Don’t you think its time for the scholars to call out to these women to stop covering themselves for the sake of their children?

And this is real you know, these deformed babies exist, this problem is fact, not the imaginary brainfart (or lie) of some misogynist Neanderthal.

  24. Actually, driving a car has to be more healthy than sitting still and not moving while in a car.

I mean, Sami do you really believe this b*llsh*t??? Come on!
    You’re just kidding right?

  25. Oh.
I had not read John J. Kactuz’s excellent explanation of the true factual points.

While I did not quite understand all the medical terms, being but a simple minded woman, I do understand that I am in serious trouble driving 150 km/hour with my ovaries on the backseat…

    I stand corrected.

I am now going to lie down and relax and enjoy my mayonnaise face mask…

  26. John what muscle are you having problems with since this syndrome is not just a female problem. This was tongue and cheek was it not.

Myofascial pain syndrome is a chronic pain disorder. In myofascial pain syndrome, pressure on sensitive points in your muscles (trigger points) causes pain in seemingly unrelated parts of your body. This is called referred pain.

Myofascial pain syndrome typically occurs after a muscle has been contracted repetitively. This can be caused by repetitive motions used in jobs or hobbies or by stress-related muscle tension.

While nearly everyone has experienced muscle tension pain, the discomfort associated with myofascial pain syndrome persists or worsens. Treatment options for myofascial pain syndrome include physical therapy and trigger point injections. Pain medications and relaxation techniques also can help.

  27. I should also like to throw out there to you men that sitting causes heat build up between your legs that kills sperm. You are just as much in danger as women by driving. Should we not ban all cars in the Kingdom and just start walking? Walking prevents more diseases (caused by obesity, and other lack of exercise) than driving will ever cause!

  28. It has for years been a well known problem that men cannot drive cars because their reproductive organs take up too much of their blood supply, thereby starving the brain, thereby causing the brain cells to atrophy, therefore they can’t drive, therefore the horrendous and unique high levels of car accidents and deaths in the kingdom.
Deaths would go down exponentially if they let only women drive.

It is quite possible that atrophied brain cells are the underlying cause for Al Luhaydan’s imaginary rolled-up pelvises.

  29. In all seriousnes- he should be in jail for blasphemy, mocking Islam, causing Fitnah or some such. They’ve imprisoned others for far less.

  30. Good point, this guy is making Islam a laughingstock all over the world, better than any cartoon ever could.

  31. Nothing surprises me anymore when the source is KSA.

  32. At least you, AA, appreciate the importance of using the female brain – of putting logic and good sense before the unfettered, wanton desires of womanly flesh (like going shopping!).

It is a slippery slope, and if we let those ovaries do what they want, all hell can break loose. One day they are there, sitting quietly on the seat, but then, who knows, on the next day they can be tearing up the road at 120km, running around all over the place, out of control and without supervision. Give the sheik credit for his courage to bring this relevant but unpopular fact to everyone’s attention.
